And still Russia has a narrow economy based on growing price of commodities and needs to develop a balanced economy, and the living standards are still only catching up in the rural areas some of which are only now getting electricity.

Expedia plans to buy Orbitz in a $1.34 billion merger in Feb. 2015. The merger is in response to changes in the hotel and airline bookings business with new competitors changing the field. Google's travel site, and other newer sites in the hotel business such as Airbnb are posing a challenge to established sites Priceline.com and Expedia. In addition the airlines have improved their own sites and offer incentives to travellers booking directly. Delta Airlines and American Airlines now have sites that are in the top 20 of online travel sites. Marriott, Hilton and other hotel chains now try to get customers to book directly. The commission charged by Expedia and Orbitz has dropped from 21% to 15% for hotel operators. Smaller hotel operators look warily at the concentration of power in two major hotel online companies, one led by Priceline.com that includes Kayak, Rentalcars.com, Bookings.com, and the other led by Expedia which now includes Orbitz, Travelocity, Hotels.com, CheapTickets.com. US president Biden's $2 trillion infrastructure spending plan is being compared to the New Deal infrastructure plans of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the 1930's. FDR was preceded by Republican administrations under Hoover and other presidents who followed policies that can be compared to the Reagan administration policies when public sector spending was not seen to be as efficient as private sector spending. Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post cites the Pew poll of September 3-7, 2015, on the Iran nuclear deal of July 2015, showing increase in skepticism about the deal's provisions by people who are informed to some extent (a little or a lot) about its details- 57% opposing to 27% supporting. The strongly partisan opinion on the issue, and the lobbying on both sides, including bringing Iraq WMD into the picture as noted by Dana Milbank in another column in the Washington Post, overstates each case. This draws attention away from the actual provisions. About 30% have no opinion it appears because the issue of this magnitude involving nuclear weapons proliferation has become politicized when it should be examined only on its merits, where public opinion would be shaped by the details of the deal itself, not who has negotiated it. The Pew Research Center poll shows 21% support the agreement negotiated with Iran, 49% disapprove, 30% offer no opinion. This compares with a poll taken 6 weeks before in July 2015 showing 33% supporting it and 45% opposing it. ...

U.S. auto companies are steadily reducing the incentives that reduced profit margins for many years. Cash back offers of various kinds to subsidized leasing programs are being pared back steadily in a determined effort to raise profit margins by Ford Motor, GM and Chrysler. The average incentive was $2,124 per vehicle in October, which was 1.4% below the level the prior year, according to Edumnds.com. The increase in demand helps automakers. The annualized rate for sales in 2012 was 14.4 million. The figures for incentives by automaker released by Edmunds.com show GM with the highest figure of $3037 per vehicle in incentives for October 2012, followed by Ford Motor at $2788, and Chrysler at $2683. The gap between U.S. car makers and the Japanese has narrowed, with Toyota at $1621 and Honda at $1420 per vehicle in incentives for Oct. 2012.
