About 30% of German bank debt will mature in less than a year, according to the German central bank, well above the long term average of 22%. Hypo Real estate, a German property lender had to be taken over by the German government, because it could no longer borrow at short term rates below what it was receiving in interest for its long term loans. Andreas Dombret, a member of the central bank executive board, said that new bubbles could form in certain securities markets as banks make "a renewed increase in the search for yield."
