San Diego Padres go all in for hiring the best players with a huge budget of $250 million. Diamond Networks is setup by Sinclair Broadcast Group with $8 billion of borrowed money to finance aggressive sports television expansion including major league baseball. The Padres depend on Sinclair's spending for television broadcast rights which are turned over to Comcast cable television and other cable providers, who face reduced subscribers because of cord cutting and people shifting to streaming services as cable television becomes prohibitively expensive. At some point the costly deals arranged by Sinclair cannot find buyers and it goes into bankruptcy.

The Observer in Britain says Jeremy Hunt's Tory tax cuts will result in further cuts to essential public spending in health and education, and public services to the disadvantaged. Without the funding to improve public infrastructure Britain is getting locked into a painful low growth future. Households are on average 1900 pounds poorer by the end of this parliament compared to December 2019, and weekly earnings will not reach 2008 levels till a full twenty years later in 2028, says The Observer. The AfD advanced in Bavaria to 16%. The CDU wins 34.5% of the vote in Hesse, with the city of Frankfurt in Hesse. CDU will continue to form a government in Hesse. The AfD won 18% of the vote in Hesse. The FDP got less than 5% threshhold for representation and the Social Democrats went from 19% to 15% in Hesse. Rafael Nadal makes a remarkable comeback to beat Medvedev after losing the first two sets in the 2022 Australian Open tennis tournament. The match lasted 5 hours till 1 am the next day. China is cutting interest rates as its economy with debt at about 290% of GDP is slowing, the EU increasing rates as it faces inflation fueled by price increases and some price gouging. In the US inflation is cut in half by Fed policy to 4% in May 2023, Biden's policies to help with the cost of living and restrain price gouging, and by supply chains working better than in 2021. A 900 mile long frontline from Kherson on the Black Sea north to Luhansk stretches Ukraine's forces along a long line in June 2023. A Ukraine effort to retake areas lost to Russia in eastern Ukraine and near Crimea as part of the counter offensive is only making slow progress because of land mines and lack of airpower. The successful Ukraine effort in 2022 to retake Kherson happened in an area which had two rivers and where Russia faced logistical issues of supplying its troops. In 2023 both sides have prepared for some time and it is very difficult for both.

China's efforts to rescue the housing industry and construction industry will be limited as the government is now concerned not to set off another bubble like that in the past. Assistance will be limited to unsold apartments which local governments can now buy to use for affordable housing, and $42 billion is provided for a central government fund to buy apartments that are unsold. All sorts of programs are cut that had proliferated over the years. The resut is that the economy shrinks by 3.5% in 2024, only to grow rapidly by 5% in 2025 restoring a more stable pattern of growth and moderate inflation. Throughout it's history Argentina has faced high inflation and economic crises.A similar pattern in Brazil was broken in 1998 after two decades of inflation. It reached 56% in January 1990 dropping to about 2% in 1998.

If it passes on the tariff to customers it faces a loss in sales, if it does not pass onto customers the higher tariff price and cuts margins it will affect Apple profits. Apple's high margin strategy by making in China is now at risk. Apple had been given a warning to shift from over concentrating manufacturing in China. This would strip Poland of its EU voting rights.
