It took Scholz one year after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine to visit Ukraine. By comparison new German chancellor Merz visited Ukraine in three days after taking office. Merz in his first speech in parliament said- “In Ukraine, nothing less than the peace order of our entire continent is at stake. In this historic moment of decision, Europe must stand together more closely than ever before.” Starmer of UK and Macron of France had already formed close relations with Ukraine in 2025. Merz, Starmer and Macron now have a clear objective not to let Russia advance its objectives in Ukraine or Eastern Europe.  This report by NYT's Schuetze and Santora from Berlin and Kviv, shows the changing situation in the war. The war is now expected to to go on for another year as the Russian side sees its economic industrial base larger than Ukraine's industrial base letting it prevail over time. Russia has spurned the offer of US peace negotiations or tacitly agreeing to it but continuing the war with large missile attacks on Ukraine. In this situation Germany plans to help build industrial base in Ukraine for war effort and supply arms and equipment, financial help. Early warnings about chatbots. No, it says chatbots are not sentient, they aren't human though AI researchers like to look cool and make believe that chatbots are sentient. To be sentient is to have the ability to perceive and feel things, to have sense impressions, the capacity to have feelings and sensations. It is about putting tons and tons of data into a computer and creating a knowledge base that a computer then accesses in a fraction of a second to make up a response which is called AI generative in the computer person's jargon. It could be nonsense. It can get better as more data is fed into it, and as its mimicking of the data fed into it becomes better, yet it remains not sentient. AI people like to pass this on as sentient but is clearly not, in that sense it is even dangerous and could cause the next crisis if vital tasks are transferred to it and computer experts. This is shown in a Japanese disaster movie on NHK television AI Amok/ AI Collapse by director Yui Irie where AI and AI experts have taken over everything from the prime minister's pacemaker to air and road traffic, and internal security, including the inventor of the AI who is seen as a security risk, leading to disaster in Japan. ...

Honda with its popular Civic and focus on small cars is emerging a winner as it increases market share and sales. During the first half of 2008 Honda sold 100,0000 more passenger cars than Ford. A new plant in Greensburg, Indiana will begin production in September making the Civic compact. By 2009 that plant could produce 200,000 Civics.

Polls published by IDEA in Hungary that show less than 10% of Hungarians see EU as a concern most are concerned about corruption and governance and public services cost of living. This was done before the election and showed Tisza at 39% and Fidesz at 30% support with 22% undecided at the time who swung in favor of Magyar and Tisza party. This shows that policies will change and Tisza supporters by large majority want change in policies friendly to EU. Yet the election was fought for good governance, good public services and lower cost of living. This means changes will not be too drastic  with Russia, not keen on Russian oil imports but maintaining pragmatic relations with Russia. But it makes a difference as 18 billion euros will be coming to Hungary from EU that were frozen under Orban which can finance better public services. Rule of law can improve and corruption can be reduced in government for Hungarian society to be seen as healthy after a quarter century of one party government by Fidesz party of Orban. ...

Putin's mother barely survived the siege of Leningrad in 1941. A plaque at the Piskaryovskoye Cemetry in St. Petersburg says 641,803 people died of starvation in the city from 1941 to 1944. She lost one child during the siege. Putin was born in 1952 and is the only surviving child.

India's central bank, the RBI plans to cut interest rates to stimulate growth in the economy in April 2012. Interest rates are at 8.5% and a cut of a quarter to half percentage point is expected. Inflation data shows year over year wholesale price increase of 6.89% in March 2012.
