DJT says- “We have to get something. We can’t continue to pay this money, and look stupid."

Zelenensky of Ukraine agrees that the US should get something back for the billions it has send to Ukraine. There is agreement in principle and this is something of an achievement as access to rare earth is something the US needs- Ukraine having extensive rare earth resources.

Pressed by tariffs from DJT China is trying to become technologically sufficient, yet this comes at a considerable cost, says this report in WSJ. Made in China 2025 was put out in 2014 when president Xi was beginning his plans for the Chinese economy. It is 2025 now and a look at the nation's investment plans show China putting $250 billion a year in advanced manufacturing sectors from automobiles to solar panels and AI, says Centre for Strategic and International Studies CSIS in Washington. This is giving China an edge but at the cost of using up valuable resources and some wasted spending at a time of stagnant government revenues. China's new production needs new markets with overcapacity such as in the electric automobile industry. This overcapacity comes at a cost when the US and other countries are restricting imports from China with new trade policies. During the DJT first term in 2016 China pulled back reference to make in China 2025 but this was temporary and China's 2021 Economic Plan puts top priority to be self sufficient in Science and Technology. Industrial support for EV's went from $15 billion in 2019 to $45 billion in 2023 (CSIS). 48% of 11 million new vehicles were EV's in 2024 with BYD and Geely the main ones of 100 brands. In shipbuilding $132 billion was invested in 2010-2018 taking China from 5% in 1999 to 48% of total manufacturing of shipbuilding in 2025 worldwide. The same is true for manufacturing aircraft and chemicals. ...

The idea that strongmen and populist politics are the problems of Sri Lanka is misleading. In the recovery of 2023-2024 it is PM Ranil Wickremasinghe with the help of PM Modi's financial loan assistance and arrangement through the IMF that put Sri Lanka back on the road to recovery.  Sri Lanka was called Ceylon during the colonial era. It became a Portuguese colony in 1505, and by 1600 a Dutch colony from which the Dutch extracted spices and cinnamon. In 1802 it was transferred by treaty to the British till independence in 1948. British left 1948 a country with an economy generating surplus from exports of coconuts, cinnamon, rubber and tea which financed a generous welfare state with subsidized rice. Under the British literacy was highest in South Asia. The failures were in race relations over two decades of war 1977-2009 by the attitudes of Sinhalese and Tamil leaders, and lack of a role model in northern India as PM Modi offers today for modernization. The second is the colossal failure of the "cut" politics where governments use their office for a cut in every business transaction which PM Modi has fought against with calls for good honest governance. The governments after 2009 continued these policies and let the central banks funds be depleted in the process leading to the financial crisis, inflation and inability to fund imports. Lessons are being learned and PM Modi is setting the path for all of South Asia for investment in infrastructure and modernization, good governance and Vikshit Bharat- developed India 2047. Sr Lanka is part of this vision for South Asia and Indonesia with 1.7 billion people.   ...

Emil Bowe, 43 years, is a federal prosecuting attorney at Southern Division, New York. WSJ calls him a state school kid among Ivy Leaguers, a law and order type who is passionate about prosecuting the bad guys. Emily Bowe and Todd Blanche are Deputy Attorney General and Principal Attorney General under DJT in 2025. Todd Blanche brought him in to defend DJT in 2024 cases filed against DJT.

Bowe from Seneca Falls upstate New York  went to University of Albany for BA and Georgetown for JD. He has given priority to pursuing immigration offense and narcotics crime in preference to white collar crimes and has a single minded dedication to the task. He is now overhauling the Justice Department to make the shift from white collar crime to immigration and fentanyl flows at the US borders.

150,000 homes in Los Angeles region that mostly empty are owned by foreign buyers 2025 who live in China and use it as an investment or asset to use when needed. Many of these homes are in the San Gabriel Valley- Pasadena, Arcadia, Temple City and San Marino.  Investors in such homes come from China, Mexico and South Korea, and real estate agents say about 1 in 10 homes are going to foreign buyers in these suburbs. In a major western nation the Shadow Government is now being led by someone who did not spend childhood years growing up in that country, putting this out of reach for millions of children whose parents and grandparents have lived there for generations. The result is that the common people are losing faith in government. In that major western nation people are deserting the main parties looking for alternatives and common sense even though the laws on birthright citizenship were finally and belatedly changed in 1983. US vs Wong Kim Supreme Court case of 1898 is about Wong as a son of parents lawfully and permanently domiciled in the country, and was seen by the Supreme Court as a natural born child for good reason. That this does not apply to women coming to a western country to give birth specifically to gain citizenship for a child and then departing appears obvious. Just one year after a mother from West Africa arrived along with others who made the same journey from around the world to give birth for citizenship in the UK, the UK changed its laws to prevent this from happening again. In the US as it seeks to  follow other countries in Europe to prevent birthright citizenship used in opportunistic ways not inherent in genuine citizenship, this jurisdiction does not apply to people here illegally or temporarily.   The authors of this article in WSJ say temporarily as understood by ephemeral jurisdiction. They cite the citizenship clause.Sen. Jacob Howard (R., Mich.), sponsored the Citizenship Clause. Senator Jacob Howard argued that it “ought to be construed so as to imply a full and complete jurisdiction on the part of the United States.”    ...

Disneyland beyond middle class reach- $1213 parking, 1 meal $210, 2 Mickey Mouse wands $60. Americans like this bank compliance officer, her husband a driver at a warehouse and their children, feel sticker shock while visiting Disneyland. Skip the line for popular rides that before the pandemic cost nothing now costs $208. The Kindells family say they were stressed thinking of the cost, and are not going back. Both of the conventional parties after years of the Reagan wars reigniting under Bush in 2000 in Afghanistan and Iraq and the wars being pursued through the Obama years of stagnation, and no effort to get to the root causes of the global financial crisis that hit the financial backup savings of millions of Americans, were hit again by the Covid pandemic and the cost of living crisis. This story from Disneyland shows that it is still with us today even after DJT as a rejection of the status quo attempts to overhaul the whole system. ...

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau comes out of a playbook of one party that supported no changes in the Financial system in the US and no consequences for financial wrongdoing in the mortgage and banking speculation financial crisis of 2009 that upended the world's financial system. The Obama administration did little to tackle the root causes of the crisis and no serious consequences for financial wrongdoing. With financial interests vested in the structure of both parties work in the financial business could go on as usual with minor changes such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and financial settlements of no serious consequence. Along with this rural areas, farmers and agriculture were given less priority than Silicon Valley during the years of the Obama administration 2008-2016. The passion for a serious overhaul stems from the sense of injustice suffered by rural America and by tens of millions of middle class Americans who took the first blows with patches of period of less work or parttime work at low wages in a battered economy in the aftermath years of the global financial crisis caused by irresponsible bankers in the years 2010-2014. This strained finances and savings only to be followed in 2019 by the Covid pandemic imposing more strains on finances of American middle class and working class people. ...

WSJ looks at a washing machine factory set up in Newberry, South Carolina. It generated 1500 well paying factory jobs. It also generated $1 million in added tax revenues every year for investment in Newberry schools and public services. When multiplied thousands of times for 51 states this adds up to billions of dollars into schools and public services, transportation in the 51 states. Add to this the restaurants and other small businesses that are supported by 1500 workers and their families this creates additional jobs of 2 or 3 times the 1500 jobs created with additional tax revenues from these workers. This is also how America reached a higher standard of living after 1945 than any other country. The higher prices come from paying American workers higher wages than in a third country in Asia. And from the point of view of the thousands of such communities in 51 states in America this is overall a massive win compared to the destruction of such factory supported communities and destruction of American manufacturing itself. Some of the higher prices are paid by city dwellers in major metropolitan centers who have much higher incomes than rural and small town communities where factories are located which are easily borne considering the benefits they enjoy of a secure supply chain, and a better educated workforce, a better educated citizenry in the country they live in. These costs and benefits are rarely counted to bring all the hidden costs and hidden benefits into the equation in many economic analysis that give no value to the national interest and the importance of communities across the entire US rural, small town and urban.  ...
