Christopher Nolan's adaptation of Homer's epic Odyssey for cinema in 2026. Emily Wilson is the classicist whose translation of the Odyssey poem was admired by Nolan. She writes in The London Review of Books-  “I had hoped that Nolan’s affinity with these Homeric themes might push him to new creative heights, and enable him to conjure more believable characters. But the Odyssey features his usual combination of grandiosity and superficiality … the film’s vision is too confused, its characters too underdeveloped, to deliver what it half-promises in terms of big ideas – although it is very good at conveying big bangs and big giants.” For Wilson the movie adaptation "lacks psychological, emotional, political and ethical depth." She adds that the writing is abysmal and none of the characters has reasons for their motivation and actions.

Senator McCain and Senators Lieberman and Graham say the U.S. is squandering goodwill of people in the Middle East by not taking action to to help the democracy movement in Syria in its struggle with the Assad regime. They say this is a unfair fight as the rebels are lightly armed and face the artillery, helicopter gunships and fighter aircraft of a brutal regime. The lack of active U.S. and European support only prolongs the struggle and cost in human lives.
