Idea that control over Straits of Hormuz is US goal is repudiated by DJT in his Address to the Nation, yet it finds its way into the media. There is no war for US to win, it is only about removing a nuclear and ballistic missile threat, nothing to do with oil. MAGA base, US public has rejected these wars in remote countries of the Middle East, when reindustrialization is the goal, not repeating the mistakes of Bush and Obama who by fighting these wars for 8 years in Iraq wasted resources and pursued policies that deindustrialized the Nation and weakened the heartland of America. Beyond limiting the threat of nuclear weapons and long range ballistic missiles that could hit US, Europe and other nations there is no other goal. US and DJT repeatedly pointed out that being self sufficient it does not need Iranian or Iraqi or Saudi oil. The president even said in his Address that the US wanted to supply other countries with oil as it produced more than Saudi and Russia combined, and not counting Venezuelan oil production ramp up expected by 3-4 million barrels a day. Behind this is the known fact that China and Japan get 90% of their imports from Hormuz Straits, so it is up to these nations and India and Britain to find solutions to Hormuz not the US. ...

Hints left in this report by Catie Edmondson and Luke Broadwater in the NYT that there is another route to passing the raising debt ceiling legislation in Congress. This is by the rather delicate route that brings together the moderates of both parties and leaves a win win for both sides with nothing that president Biden considers burdensome to ordinary Americans Biden seeks to defend. It means progressive Democrats and extreme Republicans would vote against it and it passes Congress. All sides can say they did the right thing as they go into the 2024 elections.

With Chinese overproduction of  electric vehicles and solar energy panels China needs the EU and US market for its economy. Now that it is more dependent on manufacturing for jobs and the economy, as its construction industry is in decline. The Biden administration by not adding new tariffs yet investing in production at home provides China and the US with a win-win relationship, that China seeks to maintain. This overrides regional tensions for the vital interests of the US and China to compete on a level playing field.

In the 2004 elections Islamic parties in Indonesia had 38% of the vote, this dropped to 28% in 2009, and polls show it is expected to drop to 20% in upcoming 2014 elections. The high of 38% in 2004 followed years of corruption under the Suharto regime and promises of clean government from Islamic parties. The anti-corruption issue has been taken up by successive governments and the popular Yudhoyono administration, leaving Islamic parties without that issue. Missing in this account of Indonesia and Islamic parties is a little bit of history that throws light on the subject. Indonesia was Hindu for the longest period of any large Muslim nation in Asia. In fact Indonesia converted to Islam only about 400 years ago, and has a strong underlying Hindu and Buddhist tradition including reverence for the Hindu god Hanuman, which can be found nowhere else. The Islam of the Crusades and of expansion across the Asian and European continent is a phenomenon foreign to the Indonesian islands. Gajah Mada who helped bring most of Malaya, Indonesia and parts of the Philippines under the Hindu Majapahit empire around 1350, was a symbol of patriotism in the fight against Dutch colonial rule from 1700-1948. The conversion to Islam came with Muslim traders from Malaya in the period 1400-1600. The name Indonesia itself is from a Greek word indus and enos for islands used by British ethnologist George Earl to refer to the archipelago. ...

C. Raja Mohan says in The Indian Express that India needs to look at the big picture of modernization in a new world for world trade in which the US is reindustrializing, Europe is reindustrializing, and India is on the road to modernization by 2040 over the next 15 years. All three processes are happening at the same time.

The old order of world trade destroyed the industrial base of the US and Europe, it also neglected India's modernization, happening with the unwitting cooperation and connivance of the business interests of the US and Europe. It will do little for India. India must also change it's industrial structure and modernization effort to fit into this new world and bring it's strengths to build a new world in which the US, EU and India modernize their economies, manufacturing base, and infrastructure in a win-win for all sides.

Bihar  state assembly elections win for NDA led by Modi has one astonishing fact- the average age in Bihar for 128 million people is 22 years with 58% of population under 25 years. The win of 203 seats of 243 is the path to stable government for the industrialization of India into one of the advanced economies of the world similar to Japan and China in Asia. It is also about the aspirations of youth in one of the world's ancient civilizations. Buddhist civilization of Asia (China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia) had its birthplace in Bihar region of northeastern India. It is now likely to find its place on the world map from ancient universities to the Buddha's ancient sites and youth finding their place in the modern world. Women participation was 72% and overall participation 68% of voters in this election in Bihar state.
