US prices were up 289% since 1990 by comparison. The Fed's moves could also lead to a decline in US home prices as mortgages become costlier. The catchup factor for meeting cost of living changes and inflation was put on hold by chancellor Merkel in 2018, another way social goals were not met under Merkel while infrastructure and child care were also neglected. Only now under a SPD Greens coalition are these problems of falling standard of living being tackled.

July 2022 was the third month in a row that solar energy output was at record levels. Photovoltaic systems generated about a fifth of net electricity production. Installed solar power capacity is now at 59 gigawatts in Germany. For 2032 the target is around 250 gigawatts of solar energy, about 4 times what it is now.

Russia supplies about half of Europe's gas supplies and today this comes through Poland and Ukraine two countries that are critical of Russia. The Nordstream 2 pipeline bypasses Poland and Ukraine and provides twice the current pipeline capacity.

Prices of natural gas are now 5 times that of last year.
