Experiential marketing is about not interrupting people's activities to draw attention to products. which is what happens in today's saturated advertising medium. Southwest's culture under its founder Herb Kelleher was eager to define itself a being different from the rest and giving people more opportunity to express themselves, be happy and work together as a group of people who wanted to take the customer in and give him a pleasant flying experience. The culture and the company's flying strategy both went hand in hand to attract the right kind of people for this enterprise to succeed and Kelleher pulled it off. His successors have tried to keep up this culture in as many ways as possible and CEO Gary Kelly continues this practice including dresing up in odd costumes for Halloween as Kelly did when he bacame a mom Edna Turnblad from the musical Hairspray. But this fun does not mean theey don't work hard at Southwest. In fact workers from other airlines who joined Southwest have quit because the work is too hard. One might say that the culture of having fun and the close feeling that is promoted among the workers at Southwest enables he airline to get a lot out oits workers, promote teamwork and helps its strategy of keeping the costs down so that its competitive with other cost conscious airlines. Southwest wages are some of the highest in the airline industry after pay cuts at other airlines but its still among the lowest cost airlines per mile a plane is flying. The flying experience can still be cheerful on Southwest even though Southwest has been making changes like flying more people on a single flight, no frills, a different boarding system and so on. Southwest has been consistently profitable and it has helped that Kelly devised a fuel hedging plan in 1999 that has saved Southwest about $3 billion since then and may save it another $2. billion in coming years....

Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata says JRD Tata who ran the company for most of the modern period would be overjoyed if he were alive today to learn about the return of Air India to the Tata Group. Under a deal with the Indian government Tata will pay $2.4 billion to cover one fourth of Air India's debt. The government will give up ownership in the airline. AIr India started as Tata AIr in 1932 flying mail and passengers from Karachi to Bombay during the British period. JRD Tata himself flew the maiden flight which is why Ratan Tata sees the return of the airline to the Tata Group with much optimism. Air India has 120 aircraft, 4400 domestic and 1800 international landing and parking slots. Problems at the airline led to losses of $3 million a day. It was nationalized in the 1950's. The Tata Group is India's largest steel producer, a major auto producer. It is India's largest conglomerate with $100 billion in sales, and employs 800,000 people in 100 countries.  ...

Airports and airlines are trying to promote flying by offering coid testing to avoid quarantines imposed by state and federal governments. Airports are opening test centres offering the PCR test which takes 48 hours for results and rapid tests that take 15 minutes but are not as accurate. Some airlines are looking at designating certain flights as covid tested flights with all passengers either tested and negative or having been removed from the flight. Lufthansa has testing at airports in Frankfurt and Munich with the German government agreeing to it that people tested and negative did not have to quarantine for 14 days. Following this summer traffic jumped. The head of the resting task force at Lufthansa, Mr. Leffers, says testing is now becoming an integral part of the flying experience. Bermuda has some of the toughest testing rules with tests required on Day 1, Day 4, Day 7 and Day 14, resulting in low traffic over the summer. Yet with covid rates rising elsewhere Bermuda has become a safer destination resulting in a large increase in traffic this month. ...

Strict enforcement actions taken by the US to enforce sweeping restrictions on the export of technology and industrial goods to Russia ,and any foreign countries who seek to help circumvent the action taken to undemine the Russian defense and technology industries. Airlines in Russia, Aeroflot, Azur Air, and UTair are denied access to US made parts or to receive services anywhere in the world including refueling. UK's Keir Starmer first denied use of the bases and till he could verify US attacks were within international law. Starmer told parliament-  "To be clear, the use of British bases is limited to the agreed defensive purposes; we are not joining the US and Israeli offensive strikes. The lessons of history have taught us that it is important when we make decisions like this, that we establish there is a lawful basis for what the United Kingdom is doing. That is one of the lessons from Iraq, and that there's a viable thought-through plan with an objective that can be achieved or has a viable prospect of being achieved.That is the principle that I applied to the decisions that I made over the weekend. This government does not believe in regime change from the skies." The situation Starmer faces domestically is that voters for Reform UK and Conservatives support full use of the airbases. Voters who vote for Liberals, Greens and Labour do not support use of the British airbases. Local elections in which Labour is seen losing a large share of its 2024 vote to Greens and Liberals is one factor the premier had in mind, in addition to issues in the war in Iraq.  Another is the consideration that Britain has a large presence in the Gulf from the days of the Empire when they were British colonies.Already in 24 hours 100,000 Britons have registered for help in the Gulf region.
