This is because national security now has a wider constituency. It could help the incumbent party the BJP with urban voters and swing voters as the issue of security remained prominent in the northern states. In other states where caste and regional politics, farmer agricultural related issues are prominent, this could be less of a factor. Overlooked in this is the manner in which new investments in infrastructure have been pushed forward for rail, road and bridges, and in other infrastructure such as hospitals and universities. The government slogan is that what was once considered impossible is now possible. New metro lines are being inaugurated in many cities including Ahmedabad, Mumbai. The speed with which the Metro in Mumbai is being built, with the head of the project saying it should have been built yesterday, is an example of the urgency given to infrastructure. The government is pushing hard to convey the image that the next 5 years would lead to an infrastructure building boom that it has shown can be done. A recent report in the Guardian shows that China is pouring every 2 years more concrete than the U.S. did in the entire 20th century. This fact drives India under Modi as it heads into the 2019 election, the sense that previous governments had never pushed India's potential for modernization similar to its East Asian neighbors, Japan, South Korea and China.    ...

As much as a 38% increase for the 4th quarter 2007, and this with half of its 3.9 million vehicles sales being in the weak North American market. Quarterly sales went up by 10%. Having better made models which customers prefer is one reason- the Odyssey, Civic and Accord and having hybrids and gas saving cars. Honda plans to invest heavily in new technologies such as gas-electric and diesel for fuel economy, and in new hybrids which are affordable.

The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Compensation Program protects vaccine makers from much of the litigation risk faced by pharmaceutical manufacturers. It limits compensation for death to $250,000. This special vaccines court is called Office of Special Masters at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. This may be one reason for Pfizer's willingness to pay $68 billion for Wyeth which is amaker of childhood vaccines. Vaccines will generate $21.5 billion in sales by 2012, according to Sanofi-Aventis. Vaccines are biologic products that can't be copied. Wyeth's Prevnar is designed to protect children against 7 strains of pneumococcal disease. It has sales of $2.7 billion projected to grow to $5.5 billion in 2015 according to Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Vaccines have driven huge reductions in childhood diseases, and the Act is designed to potect makers of vaccines, who suffered from excessive litigation in the 1980's.

The different opinions of Fed Governors of Kansas City and Boston show the divergence of opinion that is being heard by the Fed chairman Jay Powell as he plans smaller interest rate increases in 2023. Susan Collins of the Boston Fed is concerned about the effects on unemployment. Kansas City Fed's Esther George is concerned about the Fed not staying in the fight against inflation long enough. Powell says "We wouldn't ... try to crash the economy.. and then cleanup afterwards. I wouldn't take that approach at all." The difficult aspect of the interest rate increases is that it takes about 1 year to know the full effects of rate increase.

From 2007 to 2022 Alberta contributed $180 billion more to federal government than it received. Alberta holds the fourth largest oil reserves in the world and contributes as much to the Canadian economy as the financial and manufacturing industries of Ontario. Because of the Liberals running federal policy away from fossil fuels no pipelines are being built for Albertan oil and Alberta is not getting the support it needs. Public opinion in Alberta is for joining the US (20%) or forming its own separate state (30%) because of a decade of Trudeau's Liberal policies. New PM Mark Carney is trying to move away from Liberal policies and find ways to meet the concerns of Albertans.
