Washington Post analysis of data shows a map with urban locations with the most risk of extreme heat in the US. How the little known Hong Kong startup KAiOS Technologies with its low cost operating system is bringing low cost access to basic smart phone features, making them affordable for the 3 billion people lacking smartphones because of the cost. Jio phones of Reliance Technologies started this affordability change by working with KAiOS to bring out its $20 Jio phone and building a high speed 4G network in India to provide low cost data to these users. Reliance turned things upside down by bringing to India the cheapest data on wireless phone use of any country in the world. KAiOS is now the third most important operating system for wireless phones after Android and Apple. This is now spreading to Brazil, Indonesia, and Africa.

A government shutdown looms in the U.S. as talks over DACA and immigration collapse between Republicans and Democrats, following a derogatory comment about Haitian immigrants by the president. Earlier talks led to a proposal by Senators Durbin and Graham which offered legalization to Dreamers -children of people illegally entering the country- a 10-12 year path to citizenship, their parents offered 1-3 year renewable work permits, and $1.6 billion in funding for a wall or border fence on the Mexican border. President Trump rejected that proposal.

Dana comes out ahead of Delphi and exits bankruptcy. Mistakes made by Steve Miller which are costing Delphi. One was to take on the unions publicly. Dana's McCracken thinks its best not to do this publicly and create antagonisms. Delphi's rocky relations with the unions means that talks that ended in June 2007 took 21 months of negotiation. And then with the involvement of Cerberus the talks dragged along for longer. Because of the deteriorating union-Delphi relations Cerberus exited. By then in late 2007 Delphi faced the credit crunch and changed credit markets so that financing is difficult. Hedge fund Appaloosa Management is the lead investor in Delphi and its founder David Tepper has poor relations with the UAW. In contrast the UAW brought in private equity investor Centerbridge Capital Partners and they had good communications witht the unions. Delphi is losing $1.3 billion in 3rd quarter 2007, whereas Dana is expected to breakeven in 2008.

A third dose increased antibodies 25 fold compared two doses for the omicron variant. Stephen Wolfram, a software designer, has deisgned a search engine which searches a structured database. The new version is called Wolfram Alpha Pro, which is a computational knowledge engine. The premium version is $4.99 a month, or $2.99 for students. Apple's Siri makes up about a fourth of the search queries handled by Wolfram Alpha. It works with data and images and can bring in figures and charts from different websites.
