Asset values estimates also have a large range, as it lacks transparency. Not much can be concluded about his business skills says the Economist, other than that his company is not exceptional, has not raised permanent captal in capital markets, or developed a truly global business. Much of the business now relies on licensing the Trump name to properties, especially golf courses, following Trump's success with a television show "The Apprentice." In terms of cash flow the television show may have produced much of Trump's income in the last decade. The Economist says Trump's performance in the real estate business is mediocre when compared to his peers.

The Economist describes the odd situation where only 17% of Republican voters voted in the presidential election primaries with the television media talking about huge voter turnout. Donald Trump wins a series of primaries by March 2016 with about 35-40% of the vote, securing less than 8% of eligible voters and headed for the Republican presidential nomination. In the fall 2012 election in the U.S. voter turnout was 54% and 129.1 million Americans voted, just to get an idea of how things change in the fall of 2016.

The Independent Panel Report on the Flint, Michigan, contaminated water crisis says the Department of Environmental Quality in the state "failed in its fundamental responsibility" to enforce drinking water safety regulations. It also says the Governor Mr. Snyder should have acted when the senior staff memebers at the governor's office asked him to do so.The EPA is faulted for prolonging the crisis by delays in enforcing drinking water standards. The problem began with the emergency manager appointed by the governor acting to make cost cutting moves for a city in financial trouble. The Panel Report puts the responsibility for overseeing the emergency manager role on the state government and the Governor.

Jenkins points out that Trump has no solutions for generating jobs, and most of the jobs lost in the last decade are not coming back when even China's Hon Hai factories are resorting to robot manufacturing to reduce costs.
