It is a surprise then that the Tories have a dismal failure in restricting immigration by 2024, going into the 2024 general election and expecting large losses of seats in parliament. It also means Tories have taken Britain out of the European Union on an issue such as immigration, heedless of the negative effects on the British economy and growth after misrepresenting it. Boris Johnson made the remark on July 2, 2019 that after Brexit "we will still have whey for our Mar's bars," as if Britain could go on as before. Worse the Tories under Johnson/Sunak misrepresented issues such as immigration in their advertising for Brexit. Resistance to EU reforms for a Single Sky Plan by controllers and national aviation agencies. The EU Transport Commissioner, Sim Kallas, is pushing the Single European Sky plan. This is being planned for January 2012. With the creation of the Single Sky national barriers would fall, national air traffic bureaucracies would give up powers, and controllers in European countries will have to work more efficiently and may face job cuts. Europe's air traffic system is splintered. There are 39 national agencies, and Eurocontrol with 64 control centers. Europe has twice as many bureaucrats and support staff compared to the U.S. European air-traffic agencies costs per flight are 75% higher than the FAA's, mostly because of labor costs. According to Eurocontrol, air traffic in Europe went up 1% in 2010 over 2009, but delays went up by 34%. Over 40% of scheduled flights in Europe were over 5 minutes late in 2010- the comparable figure for the U.S. is a little over 25%. This splintered situation became an obvious drawback during the volcanic eruption in Iceland, when the lack of a single regulator meant the lack of a common standard. In 2009, the EU presented its own program that would group 32 national agencies into nine units called airspace blocks, which would given the task of breaking down internal barriers and integrating operations A common set of standards for all air traffic agencies would be set, and advanced technology would be used to support safety and efficient flight management. Kharg Island near Hormuz and Jask Island on Gulf of Oman two of Iran's main oil export terminals. Oil is pumped by underwater sea pipelines to storage tanks that hold 30 million barrels on Kharg Island then loaded onto oil tankers that make their way through the Hormuz Straits. The oil is shipped to teapot refineries in China- smaller independent oil refineries in China that have not faced sanctions. This oil is shipped at a discount. How does China pay for this oil? China gets 2.1 million barrels a day from this source. It is paid for with a $400 billion Chinese investment in Iran under a 25 year Comprehensive Partnership Agreement signed in 2021 during the Biden Administration in the US. The investment covers energy, infrastructure and technology in Iran. At $60 a barrel before the Iran War China would have an import oil bill of $46 billion for 1 years supply of oil from Iran. This was paid for in yuan based transactions and barter systems which involved Iranian construction projects performed by China and exchange of other products, raw materials. ...

Opening windows and doors to let in fresh air is as important as wearing masks and social distancing to prevent coronavirus. In places where people gather and in homes it is important to let in fresh air so that there is new fresh air circulating in rooms 3-4 times for every hour. It is being used as a strategy in schools in Germany to bring in fresh air. Putting MERV 13 type air filters in central air conditioning and heating systems is important in offices, shops and other spaces. A complete redesign of the systems that are old is needed. There are 36,000 schools in the U.S. that have old failing systems of heating and cooling. It would cost $360 billion to change these systems if each system cost $10,000 which is on the low side. Sheila Bair says she fears the next crisis will start in Washington. Bair points to the need for urgent action along the lines recommended by the Bowles-Simpson Deficit Commission. Areas identified by Bowles-Simpson should be tackled as early as possible, she says - tax subsidies for housing and health care that lead to misallocation of resources, defense spending, special-interest provisions. She points out that the increase in the deficit is a result of the unwillingness of governments over the last two decades to make the hard choices necessary to control the structural deficit. Total federal debt doubled in the last 7 years, to almost $14 trillion, or about $100,000 for every American household. Bair, as Chairman of the FDIC, played a critical role in the efforts to control the US financial crisis of 2008-2009. Relentless federal borrowing she says, undermines the confidence private investors have in US government obligations. The cost for bond investors and others to purchase insurance against a default by the US governmet went up from 2 basis points in January 2007 to 100 basis points in early 2009, and is now at 41 basis points. With 70% of US Treasury obligations held by private investors scheduled to mature in 5 years, a decline in investor confidence would lead to higher government and private borrowing costs. She writes this just as the debt crisis in Ireland is taking place, following the one in Greece, and contagion to Portugal and Spain is feared. Bair fears a similar loss of confidence in US public debt. High and volatile interest rates could lead to losses for financial institutions holding Treasury debt and raise funding costs for depository institutions....

US DJT administration using Section 301 creates the tariffs the US Supreme Court struck down- the EU, Mexico, Canada at 10%, Japan,, India China at 12.5%- June 2 2026. These countries are not doing enough to control the importation of products made with forced labour. This only goes to show what was said at that time and which the SCOTUS itself said the DJT administration could do, find other laws by which the same tariffs could be imposed. By the time the US Supreme Court reviewed the case it was already clear that all these countries had accepted DJT tariffs, and most had negotiated fair deals with the US including making up for past abuses by these countries of the international trading system. The US Supreme Court its shortsightedness ignored this or did not quite grasp this as Justices legal knowledge of facts does not mean grasp of the facts of commerce, trade and business and the history underlying it. Jamieson Greer interviewed at the Council of Foreign Relations this week and Robert Lighhizer in Foreign Affairs (covered and summarized on these Lyrarc pages this week as found rarely in other places) have documented these abuses in detail leading to the US losing $20 trillion in wealth shifted to these countries and its manufacturing dependent communities devastated by loss of over 5 million jobs through the shortsightedness of Bush/Obama adminstrations who let this happen, and these countries that took advantage with reckless disregard for these communities in the US, on a scale unknown in history.  ...

Questions China faces on AI- 17% high youth unemployment and 200 million young people in the gig economy in low wage demanding work. Chinese Communist party wants to see a stable China that can pursue industrial progress for decades like the European Union and the US. For this reason it is not going to let this level of dissatisfaction with high youth unemployment and low wage demanding work for young people to go to the next level. For this reason it will carefully make investments in AI -not the hyper investments in AI that are taking place in the US. The competition with China is going to take place on many fronts, and the industrial bloc created by the EU with India and Nordics has a 15 year plan during which it and the US are likely to far exceed anything China does at a slower rate of growth. As in the US choices will have to be made in China, investment in one area means disinvestment in other areas that have equal or more priority. Today's capital markets are in complete dysfunction in the US operated by a few banks and tech company leaders, similar to the situation prevailing in pharmaceuticals and healthcare. Investment priorities and planning are needed. It is a major error to say US cannot plan that capitalism does not have planning, because it is absolutely true that planning goes on at every level in American companies with Xerox, IBM, Oil Companies and other large companies, all having a Long Range Plan as well as planning for individual projects and investments in plants. If a good infrastructure plan, project by project, state by state, and at the local level, is not put in place this will simply not take place. If no good reindustrialization plan, project by project, state by state, and at the local level, is not put in place, this will simply not take place. In that case the competition with China would surely be lost before it had begun. Yet that is surely not the case, as every good American company has a long term plan. And this plan looks at all the potential investments the Nation can and should make in priorities and in the interests of the Nation and the People. All have to compete for resources and AI surely would not get the lions share of resources in China, or in the US, in a fair and well run market system where planning rightly takes place, because it would displace the very basic structure of a fair and well balanced economy that serves the American people, or the people of European Union and India, or the people of China. ...
