Pepsi's acquisition of OAO Wimm-Bill-Dann, a maker of dairy products and fruit juices in Russia, in a deal valuing the company at $5.4 billion. Wimm-Bill-Dann is one of the two largest dairy products companies in Russia, along with Danone controlled Unimilk. It is the third largest company in juices and is the largest baby foods company in Russia. Earlier acquisitions in Russia by Pepsi in juices were for OAO Lebedyansky in 2009 for $2 billion. Wimm-Bill-Dann was founded in 1992 and was one of the first Russian companies to make fruit juice, with a brand called J7. It has also built up a popular brand of dairy products called "Domik v derevne"- "little house in the country." It now has 16,000 employees and 38 production facilities.

Eleven members of the panel on the US Deficit Commisssion supported the plan, and seven opposed it, in a 11-7 vote. The panel members supporting it include Senator Durbin, Senator Coburn, Senator Crapo, Senator Gregg, and Senator Conrad. In the House the following House members voted against it- Rep. Becerra, Schakowsky, Camp, Hensarling, Paul Ryan. The House Democrats opposed it because of the changes to Social Security, and the House Republicans opposed it because they said the report did not tackle federal health-care spending sufficiently.

The savings rate in the US has averaged 5.7% of disposable income in 2010, compared to 3.1% in the prior ten years according to the Commerce Dept. Even with tiny returns of 0.80 percent on average in October 2010, deposits at banks increased by $1 trillion to 7.74 trillion since October 2007, says Market Rate Insight. Information from the Fed shows borrowing by banks decreased by 17% since July 2009, while deposits increased by 9%. Banks are doing more of their funding with core deposits.
