About 727,000 fewer students signed up for undergraduate programs to go to college in 2021 compared to 2020. This is bad for Ameirca, bad for upward mobility, as these students missing in college are missing an opportunity for better education and the income gains that go with it. Only 63% of high school graduates signed up for college in fall 2020 the lowest in 20 years. This is alarming news.

This report in WSJ says schools are not giving up- they are trying to get back as many as possible. Some call it working to the point of exhaustion to have that conversation with students on where they are at and where they want to go. If we can't get it right its a huge failure, says one organization doing this in Tennessee.

Krugman points out that about 13 million Americans without insurance gained health insurance under the Obama plan. He says if it is turned back 8 million whites without a college degree in that 13 million will lose health insurance. Of these eight million about two out of three voted for Trump, so that 5 million Trump supporters could now lose health insurance even though they are older and have more health conditions. Krugman says this aspect of the election campaign was not covered well in the misinformation and social media information of the 2016 campaign, and the lack of media focus on the important issues in the election. Google has the lowest share of the search market in South Korea- 2%. This has prompted Google to follow the leading search portals in South Korea. Whats different in South Korea is that people say they go to a home page to see the news, and topics that are popular with fellow users. NHN and Daum the leading portals present users with home pages that look more like those of media outlets than asearch engine. They give latest news, photos, videos and updated lists of highly trafficked blogs and popular online chat sites. First they look at this information, then they start a search. NHN Naver has 66% of search queries, Daum 21% and SK Telecom's Nate 6%. Yahoo Korea 3%, Google 2%. Daum and Naver have created vast databases of popular content and link to them first. A search for lung cancer will show information from articles acquired or commissioned from Korean doctors and hospitals. Its adiffernt approach and it works in South Korea. To adapt to this user preference Google will now showblocks of links under the main search box about topics and news that are popular in for South Korean users....

BBC News looks at the Judge who will be handling the Trump New York indictment, Juan Merchan. He began his legal career in 1994 after graduating from Hofstra University School of Law. He worked in the Nassau County District Attorney's Office before becoming deputy assistant attorney general for Nassau County in 1999, and assistant attorney general for Nassau and Suffolk counties. He has served as a justice in the New York County Supreme Court since 2009. Merchan is described as a serious jurist, smart and even tempered, and a no-nonsense judge who is always in control of his courtroom.

Merchan has already handled a case against the Trump Organization and Mr. Weisselberg. In that courtroom he is reported to have said that he would not in any way allow anyone to bring up a selective prosecution claim, or claim that this is some sort of novel prosecution, that Weisselberg was somehow being targeted because of his association with Mr. Trump.

The first lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska talks to BBC News about the war and the impact of the war on herself and her children. She says her family misses most spending time together. Her emotional state at the beginning of the war was a constant flow of adrenaline, and she found it necessary to calm herself to live in the conditions that existed in Ukraine. Some months were spent in hiding in different locations. She doesn't live together with her husband and the family is separated because of war conditions, she says. She becomes emotional when she talks about her family.

She met Mr. Zelensky in high school and went to work together in a comedy troupe, Zelensky as an actor and she as a screen writer. Zelensky went to Kviv National Economic University where he obtained a law degree in 2000. His career was to be with Studio 95 for a comedy series which he did till he became a producer for Inter TV, and then joining Ukrainian network 1+1.

In a piece of good news in the reopening U.S. job losses declined in May sharply to match levels seen before the coronavirus. In May 1.8 million workers were laid off from jobs, according to the Labor Department. This is down significantly from 7.7 million in April and 11.5 million in March. May job losses were in line with January and February job losses before the pandemic.

There were 5.4 million job openings in May also a good recovery sign. There are still 21 million Americans shown as unemployed in May. Overall U.S. job gains were 7.5 million jobs added in May and June, after 22.2 million jobs lost in March and April.
